Louisville Hotel Prices Up 265% During Kentucky Derby

April 28, 2015 – Derby fans visiting Churchill Downs this weekend to watch “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” better hold their horses — and their wallets. Hotel search trivago.com analyzed average nightly hotel rates in Louisville and found prices jump to $576/night over Kentucky Derby weekend (April 30 -May 2) — a 265% increase compared to the average price of $158 just one weekend before (April 23 -25).


To illustrate the price surge, trivago has broken down the rates for three major cities within driving distance to Louisville for the same dates. As seen in the chart above, visitors staying in the Bluegrass city of Lexington, just 68 miles south of Louisville, could save on average $428 per night. Rates in nearby metropolises such as Indianapolis and Cincinnati remain steady when compared to the major price increase seen in Louisville.*Average nightly hotel rate based on prices found by trivago.com users for a standard double room.
