Our story

trivago is one of the most successful European travel brands to scale globally.

Founded in 2005 in Dusseldorf, Germany trivago started with a simple idea: use technology to solve real user problems and simplify hotel search. Driven by entrepreneurial passion and the goal to become experts in hotel deals, we turned a $1 million investment into a revenue of $1 billion. And listed on NASDAQ. Our bootstrapping mentality has made us one of the most successful European startups to scale globally.

The pandemic represented a near-death experience for us. But the resilience and expertise of our 650+ team members from 75+ nationalities ensured our survival and continued growth. Since then, we’ve heavily invested in our brand, launching a global AI-powered marketing campaign — the first to do so. Always at the forefront of innovation, we continue to leverage cutting-edge tech like AI in our product, to simplify hotel search and enhance user experience.
