trivago reveals the Top 10 trending Fall destinations
As much as we don’t want to admit, summer is over, and fall is here. However, that means it’s the season for fuzzy socks, pumpkin spice lattes and – most importantly – fall travel! Some may be chasing the beach, holding on to those last rays of sunshine, and others are hitting the big cities to take in the sights. Recent data from trivago, leading hotel accommodation search platform, reveals the top 10 locations people are jetting off to this fall:
Top Destinations | Average price per night ($) |
1. Las Vegas | 205 |
2. New York | 398 |
3. Myrtle Beach | 150 |
4. Ocean City | 209 |
5. London | 242 |
6. Orlando | 138 |
7. Paris | 260 |
8. Cancun | 283 |
9. Rome | 289 |
10. Honolulu | 254 |
A few new destinations entered the ranks compared to last year’s top destinations such as Cancun and Honolulu. While international destinations like Rome and London dropped a few pegs, Myrtle Beach jumped from number four to number three indicating more domestic travel is on the rise this fall season. After the record-breaking high travel volume this summer, travelers desire to stay closer to home this fall increased as some are considering chasing the sun in these final few months ahead of the winter season.
As we make our way through the dreamy fall season, the enthusiasm of American travelers to explore and experience new destinations remains strong. Here are the latest travel trends shaping the Fall season, according to trivago.
- Fall Events Driving Demand: This season the top fall destinations include Las Vegas, New York and Myrtle Beach with each city offering unique experiences. In Las Vegas travelers experience the stunning fall weather with outdoor festivals like Life is Beautiful, plus enjoy the vibrant nightlife as Halloween festivities kick off. Embrace the fall beauty of New York by exploring Central Park during peak foliage and indulge in seasonal treats at local markets. Myrtle Beach offers warm coastal weather while exploring the beautiful beaches. Take part in the Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest, and don’t miss the stunning sunsets along the shore.
- Travel Period Cooling Off: The year-on-year search interest (demand) has normalised across the board over this time period. This is likely due to the fact many travelers have already taken their big trips over the summer, especially during the long summer school break. While we know that summer 2024 has been the busiest travel period yet, expect this fall season to begin to slow slightly. Which could mean, less crowds for you!
- Travel Matters: trivago’s latest survey shows that travel significantly boosts well-being. In fact, 78% of US travelers say regular vacations improve their mental health, with 30% traveling specifically to enhance their mental wellness. With so many Americans working hard, taking the opportunity to unwind and seek adventure is more important than ever.
- Affordable Destinations and Accommodations: The decline in demand for expensive destinations like London and Paris was observed, while there was an increase in demand for more affordable destinations like Myrtle Beach, Ocean City and Orlando. People also traded down in hotel star ratings to save a few dollars.
- Advanced Booking: People booked trips further in advance, planning to ensure they found the best prices to compensate for economic pressure and price increases.
